Lucy

My daughter’s road to recovery with N-Able Services after a brain injury

Situation

Aged 10, Lucy was knocked down while crossing the road. Although she had lots of broken bones and physical injuries, it was an injury to her brain that caused the greatest difficulty. She became very challenging and didn’t like noise or disruption, which was difficult as she shared a room with her sister. She began to struggle in school and her behaviour deteriorated.

Solution

We had a Case Manager through N-Able who reviewed Lucy’s treatment plan as a whole and began to find gaps which she soon plugged by liaison with the rehabilitation team and bringing in Occupational Therapy, Neuropsychology and more. She made sure this was tied in with school and Lucy’s education. They provided the family and school staff with training in brain injury, and recognised the need for an assessment for special educational needs. They also advocated for an improvement in our accommodation.

Outcome

  • We moved to a bigger house, with a separate quiet area for Lucy to have time out, or engage in her rehabilitation.
  • Lucy’s behaviour and performance in school improved dramatically.
  • Lucy began to see and plan her future and is now studying beauty therapy
  • We all understand Lucy’s brain injury much better which has improved our relationship and family life.
Where it once was hard to look to the future, we are now looking forward to a bright future for Lucy.
